Doing In a Place Like This

    I am carrying
      the witness
  out of the destruction
    I am bearing
    the witness
      out in my arms
< back to poetry titles Damn The witness
< back to image   is heavy
< back to giornata.net   I wrapped up the big
        sleep stinking death in rag
      and newspaper
        I was going to chuck
      it in the Hudson River
        The rat's snout caught
in the trap on St. Mark's

      They're watching and waiting
        They're holding brooms
      and mops
        Bobby had a dream
his bride's bed full of blood
        Oh the cuckoo
      she's a pretty
        Oh my daughter
      She's a
        There was laughter
      I wrapped the witness
        in rags
      headed west
I was going to cross that
      motherfucking river
        Cross over
      Get redeemed
